The Asian market for Accutane is strong

It’s easy when you sit in the world’s biggest market to think this is all of the world that matters. This is true in an odd way. In politics, it’s called nativism. The idea there’s never a need to know anything about what’s happening outside your own town, city, state or country. Call it xenophobia. Call it whatever. The result is only a few care whether other people have good ideas. All that matters is what you think. This is nothing new. Go back to Shakespeare and you find exactly the same thing in Merchant of Venice where Shylock pleads for understanding in the, “If you prick us, do we not bleed?” speech. If we had a better insight into how our neighbors think and behave, there would be fewer chances to make enemies. Although understanding how different parts of the world do react to acne may not look useful, who’s to say they might not have good ideas about how to treat the problem.

There’s an upcoming conference due in Thailand later this year. The organizers have been doing surveys to find out what makes the Asian market tick. The results are not really surprising. The overwhelming demand is for any products that slow down the aging process. No matter where you live, the majority prefer to retain their youthful looks. The second favorite is for products to whiten the skin. Now, this is the time for truth. This is all our fault. Westerners started going East in 1270. Marco Polo made it to China and that set the trend. With natural arrogance and military superiority, the West convinced the East that only white folk get ahead. Despite independence, the modern generation still hankers after being white skinned. There’s just one problem with this and it explains the third major market sector. The whiter the skin, the more obvious any blemishes. So the demand for acne treatment outstrips the US market. There are two key environmental factors conspiring to make the problem worse in Asia where up to 80% of the population are estimated to have skin problems. The first is the level of pollution. With fewer controls over what’s pumped into the atmosphere and dumped into the rivers, skin is damaged by walking through the streets and washing using water from the faucets. The second is the level of humidity. The combination of humidity in a climate with a temperature high than your body’s produces an unfortunate effect. The skin swells and more blood comes closer to the surface to radiate the heat away. Except if it’s hotter outside the body, no heat radiates away. The perspiration dries fast and produces an acidic and salty layer. This causes major flare-ups of acne all over the body, not just on the face and upper body as in the West.

Asian people have made an interesting discovery. First, they store their anti-acne products in the fridge during the hottest weather. Second, they get cooler before applying their anti-acne products. Put together, they get better results from the cold products. When this is not a complete success, they turn to Accutane. No matter which part of the world you come from, Accutane is the only drug guaranteed to clear up even the most stubborn flare-ups of acne. So, people really are the same all around the world.
